Public Humanities Workshop: Bell Pettigrew Museum, St Andrews

23 Jan 2020 - 24 Jan 2020

University of St Andrews

Maria Brock presented and took part in a British Academy Early Career Researcher Workshop centring on the discussion of what constitutes engagement, the politics and practicalities of building collaborations with non-academic partners, and the ethics of conducting such work. The workshop ‘SLAVIC STUDIES GOES PUBLIC’ – organised by Dr Victoria Donovan and Darya Tsymbalyuk and hosted by the University of St Andrews – brought together Early Career Researchers in Slavic Studies to discuss the kinds of engagement work currently ongoing in the field and to reflect in a sustained way on the ideologies, ideals, and ambitions that inform work with public audiences. The workshop involved academics, artists, and activists from Canada, the UK, Ukraine, the US, and Russia and explored impact across borders, politics, and cultures. The innovative format included roundtables, group discussion, creative interventions, and peer-to-peer mentoring sessions.
